Legionella Control Solutions in Health Care

healthcare-hospital-enrich-productsHospital and care facility patients are among the most vulnerable to nosocomial (hospital-acquired) Legionella infections, which most frequently occur in people who are already immunocompromised or older than 50.

The deadly bacteria can build up in fixtures when left unused, like sinks and showers in rooms with bedridden or weakened patients. With an EPI copper silver ionization system, a simple flush (running the water) can help clear out the dangerous bacteria by exposing it to the ions in the treated water.

Other treatments for Legionella control, like super-heating and chlorination, can be dangerous to these already vulnerable patients if not properly implemented.

Super-heating the water can result in scalding if temperatures are not closely monitored and require the use of expensive mixing valves.

Halogen-based chemicals – like chlorine, chloramines (aka monochloramine) and chlorine dioxide – are highly toxic and require intensive monitoring. They can combine with other elements in the water system to create regulated and unregulated bi-products, which are also highly toxic. Exceeding regulatory limits for these chemicals can require public notice, including releasing that information to the press.

Copper silver ionization has the lowest human toxicity rating for Legionella control. It also works at any temperature of water, eliminating the need for mixing valves.

For more than 17 years Enrich Products has supplied healthcare facilities with superior equipment for Legionella control. We are now the first Copper Silver Ionization company to obtain both EPA registration and NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 certifications.

Our systems are cost-effective, easy to install and maintain, and safe for plumbing systems and patients. In the event of an emergency, we can deliver and install equipment in 48 hours. Enrich also offers short-course treatments for emergency outbreaks.

Our portable unit can be easily wheeled from site to site, allowing for effective short-term treatment of infected water. We offer leases as well, with the option to purchase equipment when the lease is done.
